Comments without reply: Dear Ann O., They're not just "well below", prisoner wages are from .05 cents to 25 cents usually; defacto-slavery is the word that comes to mind. As well, to elucidate, it's not an ecomomic issue only; defacto-slavery is the term, premeditated murder guised as "suicide", and continual crimes of every kind, not just murder, determine that fact. Minimizing that is completely conspiring with the corporate structure's convolution's justifying the whole of the prison industrial process- including the injustice system's being that as well. reality
Mike P., It's absurd to suggest "...more prisons are in order...", as you profer. It's real institutional representation of, and remnants of the slavery atrocities, and can as readily be suggested to be completely abolilished as it can be to increase the amount of prisons. The idea of communication is to realize growth, not intransigency. How could anyone be against the prison industrial complexes extemities being addressed as a whole (including the extereme cost to taxpayers and the well being of society at large and small); and due to it's being based on extreme injustices, it be minimized by removing the actual injustices happening within it constantly? Isn't humanity a central them to any and all communication surrounding change? reality
The closing argument for reparations by an audience member was valid, to paraphrase, "the existential necessity of reparations is at it's core moral, conscious, a need for a country to acknowledge and address extreme fundamental wrongs". Yes, if everything was always wrong, nothiing can ever be right. The facts that all people benefit from the atrocities of slavery, not just non-blacks, etc., are irrelevant to the conversation, for it's in no way, shape or form an economic one- the astronomical immorality, genocide, extermination of humanity, etc., that took place informs the parameters of the required redress. That fundamental need for a society to address it's rotting marrow is real, and it going unattended to is it's watching itself completely rot from the inside out; ergo, Rump/Utin/vlad-the-impaler's being installed into the Blackhouse is just a symptom- which obviously indicates the power of the disease to not just destroy this nation, Turtle Island, and all life on it, but to also exterminate and extinct all life on Earth and destroy the Earth itself, if unadressed in reality, really. reality
So, unless we wish to continue to watch the rot only grow until it devours the country's body politic and starts devouring the populace, geography of it as well, "...we(e),..." must realize the ground seeded for the birth of reparations and the potential for a nation to exist instead. reality
